Streaks

Habits for people who travel a lot

Vacation mode, the timezone banner, skips with a Travel reason, and a short list of habits that survive airports. Keeping streaks honest on the road.

Two kinds of trip

There is the trip where you want the habits to stop, and the trip where you want them to carry on in a smaller form. Sweepifi handles both, but they use different tools, so decide which kind of trip it is before you leave.

Trips where the habits pause

Vacation mode (Pro) takes a date range and makes every due day inside it neutral, across all your habits at once. Streaks do not grow and do not break. When you get back, you pick up where you left off.

You can set it in advance or up to 7 days after the fact, for the trip that got away from you. If only one habit needs to stop (the gym, while the rest carries on), use Pause on that habit instead, for up to 30 days.

On Free, the equivalent is a skip with the reason "Travel" on the days you were away. Skips are unlimited and neutral; they just take a tap per habit per day. Free can edit the last 3 days, so do it before the trip gets too long. The full rules are in how streaks work.

Trips where the habits shrink

For work travel and long stretches away, the better move is to keep a couple of habits running in travel-sized form. A good travel set:

  • Stretch: ten minutes on a hotel floor, no equipment
  • Hydrate: airports make this one honest
  • Text a friend: a one-line message from the gate
  • A one-line journal, which fits on any device

Everything else can be skipped with a reason. One or two done habits a day keep the Sweep streak lit, and the flame does not care that the stretch happened in a hotel room.

The timezone banner

Your profile has a timezone, and every check-in is stamped with it. If your device has been in a different timezone for more than 24 hours, Sweepifi shows a banner naming the city it thinks you are in and asking whether to switch.

Switch it when you intend to live on local time for a while. Leave it for a quick hop. Either way, past days are never rewritten; a check-in that counted for Tuesday stays on Tuesday no matter what you switch to later.

Your day still starts at 03:00 in whichever timezone is active, so a late check-in after a red-eye lands on the day you expect.

Crossing the date line

Flying east you can lose a day; flying west you can live one twice. Neither breaks a streak. A day that never existed for you was never due, and a day that happened twice only needs doing once. If something looks odd on the date strip after a long flight, give it until the next day; a nightly reconcile tidies up timezone drift.

The Travel Day routine

Packing is a routine, and running it from one screen is calmer than a list in your head. The Travel Day template has five steps:

  • Passport or ID check: in the bag, not on the table
  • Charge devices
  • Pack toiletries
  • Confirm bookings
  • Leave 2 hours early

Schedule it for the day before departure. Add "set vacation mode" as a step if you are on Pro and tend to forget.

Coming home

The first day back is the day that matters. Do not try to catch up on the days you missed; backfilling honestly explains why that undermines the record. Just open Today and do the small things. If the streak reset while you were away, what to do after you miss a day is short and not unkind.

Try it in Sweepifi

Add the Travel Day routine and pick two habits you will keep in travel size. Before the next trip, decide whether it is a pause trip or a shrink trip, and set vacation mode or your skips accordingly.
