Habit tracking on iPhone and Android as a PWA

Sweepifi installs from the browser with no app store. Install steps for iOS, Android and desktop, how offline works, and the iPhone notification caveat.

What a PWA is, briefly

Sweepifi is a web app you can install. Open sweepifi.com in your browser, add it to your Home Screen, and it runs full screen with its own icon, works offline, and sends push reminders. There is no app store, no update to download, and the same account works on every device you sign in on.

The install is optional. Sweepifi works fine in a browser tab. But the installed version is nicer to use every day, and on iPhone it is required for push notifications.

Install on iPhone and iPad

In Safari:

  1. Open sweepifi.com and sign in.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add.

The icon appears on your Home Screen like any other app. Open it from there from now on. After your second visit in Safari, Sweepifi shows a short illustrated version of these steps, so you do not have to remember them.

Install on Android

In Chrome (most other Android browsers work the same way):

  1. Open sweepifi.com and sign in.
  2. If an Install banner appears, tap it. Otherwise, open the browser menu (three dots) and tap Install app or Add to Home screen.
  3. Confirm.

Sweepifi will offer the install itself on your second day. You can also do it any time from the menu.

Install on desktop

In Chrome or Edge, there is a small install icon at the right end of the address bar. Click it and Sweepifi opens in its own window. Useful for a quick check-in without opening a browser, and for running a routine on a bigger screen.

Notifications, and the iPhone caveat

Push reminders are the main reason to install. Each habit can have a reminder (one on Free, up to three on Pro), plus optional routine reminders, a daily summary, and a streak-at-risk push in the evening. Pushes have Done and Snooze 1h buttons, so a reminder can be a check-in.

The caveat: on iPhone and iPad, push notifications only work from the installed Home Screen app. A Safari tab cannot receive them. Install first, then turn on reminders in Settings and allow notifications when iOS asks.

A few more notes:

  • Android: allow notifications when prompted. If reminders arrive late, check that battery saver is not restricting Sweepifi.
  • Pushes are capped at four a day by default (adjustable from one to ten), and quiet hours from 22:00 to 07:00 hold anything non-urgent.
  • If you would rather not install, or push is not working on your device, email reminders do the same job everywhere.

Offline

Check-ins are saved on your device first and sync when you are back online, without duplicates. Streaks update instantly on the device and settle with the server after sync. A check-in on a plane, in a basement gym, or on a train through a tunnel is a normal check-in. Your Today screen is available offline too.

Syncing across devices

Sign in with the same account on your phone, tablet and laptop and everything is one list. Check a habit on the laptop and it is done on the phone. Guests who have not signed up yet are on one device only; save your progress with an email link, Google or Apple to get the rest.

Uninstalling and your data

Removing the icon removes nothing from your account. Reinstall any time, or just use the browser. Your data is yours regardless: Settings has Export my data (always free, on every plan) and Delete my account.

Try it in Sweepifi

Install Sweepifi on your phone now, turn on one reminder for one habit like Hydrate, and check in from the notification tomorrow. Then read using time-of-day sections to make the Today screen feel short, and how streaks work for what the flame is counting. If you want a routine to run on the new install, Morning Reset is the one to start with.
