Routines
A realistic gym routine
Three sessions a week, a routine you can run from your phone, and a streak that counts weeks instead of days. The gym habit for people with jobs.

Realistic means three
Six days a week is a plan for a different life. Three sessions a week is a plan for this one, and it is the one that is still running in six months.
In Sweepifi that is a Strength session habit with a times-per-week schedule of 3. Any three days. The streak counts weeks you hit, not days, so a Tuesday off does not cost you anything.
The routine around the session
The session itself is forty-five minutes. The reason people skip the gym is usually the other forty-five: finding the shoes, deciding what to do, standing around at the end. The Gym Day routine takes those decisions away:
- Pack bag: shoes, towel, bottle, lock
- Warm-up, 10 minutes
- Session, 45 minutes
- Cool-down, 5 minutes
- Snack
- Stretch, 5 minutes
Six steps, which is the Free limit, and it fits exactly. The Session step is linked to the Strength session habit, so finishing it in run mode logs the habit for the day. You do not check in twice.
Running it on your phone
Tap Start on the routine from Today and it goes full screen: one step at a time, a countdown for the timed ones, and the screen stays awake while it runs. Done, Skip, Back. If you lock the phone between sets, the routine resumes where it was when you come back.
The warm-up and cool-down timers are the useful part. They turn "I should probably warm up" into a ten-minute countdown that is simply part of the routine.
Fixed days for the routine, flexible days for the habit
The routine and the habit inside it are scheduled separately, and they suit different rhythms:
- The routine runs on fixed weekdays. The template uses Mon, Wed, Fri. Routines cannot use a times-per-week schedule, so pick the days that usually work and treat them as a default, not a contract.
- The habit (Strength session) is 3 of 7, any days. If shifts, travel or kids move a session to Thursday, run the routine that day anyway; the Session step still logs the habit, and the habit's weekly streak only cares that three sessions happened.
If your week has a reliable shape, you can also switch the habit to the same fixed days so both streaks tell the same story. There is more on the trade-off in weekly habits vs daily habits.
The days in between
The gym habit is weekly, but the body is daily. Pair the routine with one small daily habit so the flame stays lit on rest days:
- Stretch, 10 minutes, any time
- Take the stairs, a Check habit
These keep the Sweep streak going without pretending every day is a training day.
When the week falls apart
It will, several times a year. A sick week, a work trip, a week when the gym is the last thing that fits. Options, in order of preference:
- Do a shorter session. Twenty minutes still counts as done.
- Skip the day with the reason "Busy" or "Rest". Skips are neutral.
- If the habit is on fixed days and you are on Pro, Auto-freeze covers a missed day for any habit streak of three or more, as long as a freeze is left this month.
- Let the week go. The streak resets; the history does not. Next week is a clean week.
The guide for the morning after is what to do after you miss a day. The short version: start the next session on time and do not try to make it up.
Keep the bag packed
The best gym habit is a bag that is always packed. Put "Pack bag" in the evening routine the night before, or stack it on something you already do: after dinner on gym-eve, the bag goes by the door. Habit stacking explained has more cues like that.
Try it in Sweepifi
Add the Gym Day routine and the Strength session habit, set the schedule to three a week, and run the routine on your next session instead of winging it. Judge the habit after four weeks, not four days.
